Minnesota State Falls to Northwest Missouri State

Joplin, Mo. --- Minnesota State (1-1, 0-0 NSIC) suffered its first loss of the season to Northwest Missouri State 12-2 Saturday evening at Warren Turner Field.
The Mavericks, deemed the away team on the neutral field, found their only success at the plate in the opening frame as sophomore Brock Johnson collected an RBI single up the middle scoring junior Jackson Hauge.
Just two batters later, sophomore Adian Byrne collected his first RBI on the season with a sacrifice fly to center field bringing home junior Mikey Gottschalk putting the Mavericks up two to start the game.
MSU's staff never found its rhythm surrendering 12 runs on 15 hits as Minnesota State saw five arms on the mound with nobody lasting over two innings of work.
Senior Chandler Fochs (0-2) receives the loss of the Mavericks going two innings surrendering four earned runs on five hits and three free passes.
Northwest Missouri's Zach Wiese (1-1) got the win for the Bears going five innings allowing two earned runs on three hits and four free passes.
The Mavericks are back in action tomorrow for day three of the Southern Missouri Invitational as they are set to square off with Southern Missouri at 10:00 a.m.
