Mavericks to Wrap Regular Season Schedule vs. Warriors and Peacocks

MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State concludes its regular season schedule as it hosts Winona State on Thursday, at 5:30 p.m., before traveling to Upper Iowa on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m., tip-off.
  
Minnesota State History: The 2022-23 season marks the 101st campaign as a varsity sport for Minnesota State men's basketball. The Mavericks are 1,413-943 (.599) in 2,356 games since the program's inception in the 1920-21 season. MSU capped its 33rd and final season as a member of the NCC in 2008 and owned a 283-267 (.515) record in 550 league games played. In the NSIC, MSU owns a 209-103 (.669) record to go with four regular-season championships and two tournament championships.

Against the Warriors: Thursday's game between Minnesota State and Winona State marks their 14th all-time meeting, with MSU leading the series 91-53. MSU has won its last two meeting against the Warriors, including a 74-71 win at WSU earlier this season.

Senior Trevor Moore notched 23 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore Kyreese Willingham posted 15 points and seven rebounds.

Connor Dillon led the Warriors with 21 points, while Luke Martens added 19 points and nine rebounds.

Head Coach Matt Margenthaler owns a 19-24 record against WSU, including an 9-10 record at Taylor Center.

Against the Peacocks: Saturday's game between Minnesota State and Upper Iowa marks their 35th encounter, with MSU leading the series 24-10. The Mavericks won their earlier meeting this season 97-68 at Taylor Center.

Junior Malik Willingham scored 30 points and recorded three blocks, while freshman Malcolm Jones notched a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Nick Reid led the Peacocks with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Lucas Duax added 15 points and five rebounds.

Head Coach Matt Margenthaler owns an 24-10 record against Augustana, including an 11-5 record on the road.

Concerning the Mavericks: Minnesota State enters the week the owner of a 16-10 record, including a 10-10 NSIC record. Last weekend on the road, MSU defeated Wayne State 67-66, before falling to Augustana 87-59.

As a team, MSU is averaging 77.2 points and 39.0 rebounds per game while shooting 44.6% from the field. The Mavericks are shooting 36.0% from three-point range and have passed out 354 assists and blocked 87 shots.

Junior Malik Willingham is averaging 18.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game this season. Sophomore Kyreese Willingham has tallied 13.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game also, while senior Trevor Moore has posted 14.7 points and 3.8 rebounds per game as well.

The Mavericks are led by Matt Margenthaler, who is in his 22nd season at Minnesota State. He owns a career record of 452-207 (.685).

Concerning the Warriors: Winona State enters the weekend the owner of a 14-11 record, including a 9-11 NSIC record. Last weekend on the road, WSU fell to Sioux Falls 67-62, before defeating Southwest Minnesota State 72-68.

As a unit, WSC is averaging 69.0 points and 34.9 rebounds per game this season, while shooting 41.6% from the field and 29.0% from long range. The Warriors have passed out 292 assists and have recorded 143 steals.

Connor Dillon leads the Warriors with 18.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. Connor Drew has notched 12.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game also, while Luke Martens has tallied 11.7 points and 6.4 rebounds a game.

Winona State is coached by Todd Eisner who is in his eight season as head coach of the Warriors and 25th season overall. He owns a 530-26 record.

Concerning the Peacocks: Upper Iowa enters the weekend the owner of a 14-12 record, including an 11-9 NSIC record. Last weekend on the road, UIU fell to Southwest Minnesota State 69-60, before defeating Sioux Falls 95-90 (OT).

As a team, UIU is averaging 77.4 points and 33.8 rebounds per game this season, while shooting 44.4% from the field and 33.5% from three point range. The Peacocks have passed out 307 assists and have recorded 159 steals.

Jake Hilmer leads the Peacocks with 22.0 points and 4.8 assists per game this season, while Lucas Duax has tallied 17.1 points, 5.2 rebounds a game. Nick Reid has notched 13.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game as well.

Brooks McKowen is in his 10th season as head coach at Upper Iowa. He owns an overall record of 164-128 record.

Block Party: Senior Kelby Kramer ranks second all-time in career blocks at Minnesota State with 191. He trails Chris Witfield (2003-06) who is MSU's all-time leader in blocks with 224.

1,000 Point Watch: Junior Malik Willingham has recorded 969 career points in four seasons with the Mavericks. He is 31 points away from becoming the 42nd member of the MSU 1,000 Point Club.
