Sioux Falls, S.D. --- #14 Minnesota State dominated Augustana as the Mavericks outscored the Vikings 83-61 on the road.
The win pushes Minnesota State to 21-3 overall and 17-3 in the NSIC. The Mavericks also extended their winning streak to seven games. The win also marks the 800th win in program history.
The first quarter saw a total of two lead changes as the Mavericks led by as many as six points. Junior Joey Batt shot 3-of-4 from the field as MSU forced 10 turnovers, en route to building a 19-13 lead by the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter, Minnesota State stepped on the gas pedal as it extended its lead to 15 points at 34-19 with five minutes left in the quarter. The Mavericks closed the final five minutes of the half on an 11-8 run to take a 45-27 lead into halftime. MSU shot 55.6% from the field in the first half and forced 22 turnovers.
Freshman Natalie Bremer led the Mavericks at halftime with 13 points. Batt scored 10 points while sophomore Destinee Bursch adding six points.
The Mavericks would not look back in the second half as they led by at least 18 points throughout the final 20 minutes as they cruised to an 83-61 road win.
Batt led the Maverick offense with 19 points to go along with four rebounds, two assists and steals. Bremer added 17 points for the Mavericks, while Bursch posted 14 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Emily Russo recorded 10 points and five steals also.
Minnesota State shot 46.6% from the field, gathered 37 rebounds, recorded 19 steals and added 12 assists. The Mavericks scored 56 points in the paint in the win and turned 32 Viking turnovers into 35 points.
Minnesota State concludes its regular season home schedule this Thursday at Taylor Center as it hosts the Winona State Warriors. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
