Minnesota State Downed by #1 Ohio State, 6-1

Columbus, Ohio --- Minnesota State (7-11-0, 3-10-0 WCHA) fell to No. 1 Ohio State (15-2-0, 12-1-0 WCHA)  by a final of 6-1 Saturday night at the OSU Ice Rink.

The Mavericks challenged the top program in the nation early as Minnesota State matched the Buckeyes in shots with twelve in the first period.

Despite the opportunities, the Mavericks found themselves in a 3-0 hole heading into the second period. OSU was able to keep up the offensive pressure tallying two more in the second period extending its margin to five.

After going down by six at the 12:30 mark of the third period, Sophomore Kianna Roeske responded with her first goal on the season and second goal of her career to steal a shutout away from OSU's goaltender Raygan Kirk. Junior Shelbi Guttormson and sophomore Whitney Tuttle notched assists on the play.

"We will look to tighten things up in the defensive zone and come out tomorrow focused on getting better chances, stated acting head coach Shari Dickerman. "We need to regroup and correct our mistakes and look to get one in against the top program in the nation."

The Mavericks are back in action tomorrow as they rematch the Buckeyes at 1 p.m. CST back at the OSU Ice Rink.
