EDMOND, Okla. --- The Minnesota State women’s golf team turned in a second-place finish a the Grace Shin Invitational held at the Golf Club of Edmond this week.
The Mavericks recorded a 300-293—593 en route to finishing 25-over par on the par-71, 5,720 yard track.
Central Missouri won the event with a four-under 281-283—564. The Mavericks finished a shot ahead of Missouri Western State.
“We stuck to our game plan and continued to give us chances to score,” said Director of Golf Alex Schmitz. “Really proud of how we competed in such a deep tournament.”
Senior Anna Cihak finished fifth as she shot a two-over 72-72—144. Cihak recorded four birdies today and had seven for the tournament, which was tied for the second most in the field.
Senior Kelly Winter and sophomore Ava Olson each finished tied for 20th. Winter improved her round by nine shots as she finished with an 80-71—151, recording four birdies. Olson, who registered three birdies, saw a seven-shot improvement from day one to day two as she recorded a 79-72—151.
Sophomore Sammy Youngquist was tied for 27th with a 74-78—152. Freshman Claire Schweim was tied for 46th with a 75-81—156, while senior Sam Soulier was tied for 50th with a 78-79—157.
The Mavericks recorded 22 birdies – the third highest total in the event – to go with 102 pars. Minnesota State’s scoring average of 5.05 on the par-fives
