ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Minnesota State (10-10, 5-7 NSIC) lost to the Huskies of St. Cloud State (16-6, 9-4 NSIC) in three sets Saturday afternoon, 3-0 at Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies had an outstanding hitting percentage of .418.
St. Cloud State started the match by taking the first two sets 25-13 and 25-15. Minnesota State rebounded in the third set, but couldn't pull off the comeback, falling 25-21.
The Mavericks were led offensively by
Sophie Tietz, who had nine kills. Tietz also recorded three blocks.
Kiya Durant had six blocks of her own to lead the match.
Brooke Bolwerk had 15 assists and five digs.
The Huskies were dominant offensively.
Sam Zimmerman had 16 kills,
Kenzie Foley had 14 and
Hannah Bruskiewicz had 11. Zimmerman also made three blocks. Foley had 14 digs to lead the Huskies.
Keely Kurschner marked three aces and 12 digs.
"They executed their game plan very well," said Mavericks head coach
Corey Phelps. "We played better in the third set, but they were the better team today." Despite today's loss, Phelps feels good about the way the team played this week. "This was a solid weekend. We continue to learn and will be better moving forward."
The Mavericks are back in Mankato next week to take on Minnesota Crookston (Friday Oct. 27, 6 p.m.) and Bemidji State (Saturday, Oct. 28, 11 a.m.) at the Taylor Center.
