MANKATO, Minn. --- The #15 Minnesota State women's soccer team posted its 11th shutout of the season as the Mavericks bested Sioux Falls 3-0 at the Maverick All Sports Dome.
With the win, MSU improves to 8-1-4 on the season, including a 6-0-3 NSIC record. With the loss, USF drops to 3-6-2, including a 3-3-2 conference record.
"I loved our energy and intensity to start the game today," head coach
Brian Bahl said. We had a point of emphasis to score early and back it up with more. Another fantastic team defensive effort for another shutout and getting three on the board is a positive step for us."
The Mavericks did not waste any time jumping out in front as they scored two goals within in the first eight minutes. Sophomore
Avery Korsching got the scoring going in the second minute with her sixth goal of the season, while sophomore
Anna Van Wyngarden notched her third goal of the season in the eighth minute to put MSU up 2-0. Van Wyngarden got credit for the assist on the goal by Korsching, while senior
Allie Williams got the assist on the goal by Van Wyngarden.
In total the Mavericks outshot the Cougars 10-1 in the first half as they carries a 2-0 lead into halftime.
MSU added one more goal in the 62nd minute to go up 3-0 as junior
Ashlyn Watt scored her first goal of the season with the assist coming from junior
Kelsey Heller.
In total, the Mavericks outshot the Cougars 19-3. They also enjoyed a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior
Mackenzie Rath (8-1-3) picked up her 10th shutout of the season as she stopped both shots she faced.
Minnesota State wraps up its weekend at home this Sunday as it takes on the Wayne State Wildcats. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
