Mavericks Begin Four-Game Homestand vs. Marauders and Beavers

MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State starts a four-game homestand this weekend as it hosts the University of Mary on Friday and Minot State on Saturday. Tip-offs are scheduled for 5:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m., at Taylor Center.
  
Minnesota State History: The 2022-23 season marks the 101st campaign as a varsity sport for Minnesota State men's basketball. The Mavericks are 1,410-940 (.600) in 2,350 games since the program's inception in the 1920-21 season. MSU capped its 33rd and final season as a member of the NCC in 2008 and owned a 283-267 (.515) record in 550 league games played. In the NSIC, MSU owns a 206-100 (.673) record to go with four regular-season championships and two tournament championships.

Against the Marauders: Friday's game between Minnesota State and the University of Mary marks their 18th all-time meeting, with MSU leading the series 13-4. UMary won their most recent meeting 65-60 in Bismarck during the 2021-22 season.

Sophomore Tyrell Stuttley recorded eight points and five rebounds for the Mavericks.

Gertautas Urbonavicius posted 13 points and eight rebounds for the Marauders.

Head Coach Matt Margenthaler owns a 13-4 record against UMary, including a 7-1 record at Taylor Center.

Against the Beavers: Saturday's game between Minnesota State and Minot State marks the 11th all-time meeting, with the Mavericks leading the series 8-2. The Beavers won the last meeting 97-69 in Minot.

Sophomore Tyrell Stuttley posted 18 points for the Mavericks, while sophomore Harrison Braudis notched 11 points.

Cam'ron Dunfee led the Beavers with 17 points, while Jaxon Gunville recorded 12 points.

Head Coach Matt Margenthaler owns an 8-2 record against Minot State, including a 4-0 record in Taylor Center.

Concerning the Mavericks: Minnesota State enters the week the owner of a 13-7 record, including a 7-7 NSIC record. Last weekend, the Mavericks fell to Northern State (104-87) and MSU Moorhead (86-76).

As a team, MSU is averaging 80.2 points and 39.1 rebounds per game while shooting 46.1% from the field. The Mavericks are shooting 37.7% from three-point range and have passed out 279 assists and blocked 69 shots.

Junior Malik Willingham is averaging 18.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game this season. Sophomore Kyreese Willingham has tallied 13.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game also, while senior Trevor Moore has posted 14.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game as well.

The Mavericks are led by Matt Margenthaler, who is in his 22nd season at Minnesota State. He owns a career record of 449-204 (.687).

Concerning the Marauders: The University of Mary enters the weekend the owner of a 9-9 record, including a 5-9 NSIC record. Last weekend at home, UMary fell to Upper Iowa 69-54, before defeating Winona State 67-59

As a unit, UMary is averaging 70.8 points and 37.1 rebounds per game this season, while shooting 43.3% from the field and 36.8% from long range. The Marauders have passed out 273 assists and have recorded 90 steals.

Kam Warrens leads the Marauders with 13.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Zyon Smith has notched 11.1 points and 2.8 rebounds per game also, while Treyton Mattern has tallied 10.9 points and 3.0 assists a game.

University of Mary is coached by Jack Nelson who is in his second season as head coach of the Marauders. He owns a 20-26 record at UMary.

Concerning the Beavers: Minot State enters the weekend the owner of a 9-9 record, including a 6-8 NSIC record. Last weekend at home, the Beavers fell to Winona State (67-58) and Upper Iowa (84-73)

As a team, Minot is averaging 74.7 points and 34.2 rebounds per game this season, while shooting 44.5% from the field and 36.2% from three point range. The Beavers have passed out 220 assists and have recorded 109 steals.

Khari Broadway leads the Beavers with 13.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game this season, while Cam'ron Dunfee has tallied 12.3 points and 2.9 rebounds a game. Jaxon Gunville has notched 11.1 points per game as well.

Matt Murken is in his 10th season as head coach at Minot State. He owns a 138-153 record.
