#11 Minnesota State Gearing Up For Home Opener Against Wayne State and Augustana

MANKATO, Minn. --- #11 Minnesota State is back at home to take on Wayne State Friday and Augustana Sunday. MSU is coming off its biggest win of the season as it shutout #1 Grand Valley State, 1-0. Jenny Vetter is coming back home a little higher in the history books as she claimed the top spot in MSU all-time game-winning- goals. Mackenzie Rath looks to build on her stellar performance last weekend as she too is climbing the history books week after week. Rath moved into the top-10 in saves this weekend with 102 surpassing Katie Krebsback's(1997) 96 saves. 

Facing WSC: Heading into the 17th matchup with WSC, the Mavericks have not lost to the Wildcats in the 16 previous matchups.Last season, WSC finished with a 6-8-4 overall record and 6-6-3 against NSIC opponents. In the previous match, the Mavericks took care of business beating WSC 2-1 in Wayne Nebraska. Louisa Shromoff and Jenny Vetter led the way last go-around both scoring early. Shromoff's goal was her first collegiate point. 

Scouting the Wildcats: The WSC offense is led by seniors Payton Haliburton and Abby Sutton. Both played important roles in the Wildcats success in 2021. Hailburton finished her 2021 campaign with a team-leading nine points. In goal, junior Sidney Truman and senior Hayden Wallace split time as each are heavily depended on. Truman started two games and wallace with the other combining for 270 minutes on the season. The platoon owns a .846 save percentage and a 1.33 goals-against average for a 0-2-1 record.
 
Facing AU: The Mavericks come into this weekend with a lifetime 29-3 over the Vikings. Last season, AU finished with a 14-4-2 overall record and 12-1-2 against NSIC opponents. In MSU's previous matchup against Augustana, the Mavericks dominated 4-0. The match started with a Vikings own-goal followed by goals from Brynn Desens, Jenny Vetter, and Nadia Lowery. Mackenzie Rath got her 10th shutout on the season which had her tied for sixth on MSU's all-time single-season shutouts list. 

Scouting the Vikings: Augustana's offense is lead by graduate student Morgan Keirstead and senior Sylvia Fehr. Keirstead finished her 2021 campaign with 22 points on the season and is a speedy factor for the Viking's offense. Fehr led the team last year in assists with 15 which account for much of her 17 total points. In goal, junior Jillian Barkus has started all three games fir the Vikings accumulating 270 minutes on the season. Barkus owns a .692 save percentage and a 1.33 goals-against average for a 0-2-1 record.
