Faribault, Minn.  --- Led by the first-place finish from Anna Cihak, the Minnesota State women's golf team opened the 2022-23 season by claiming top honors at the Maverick Invitational.

The 36-hole tournament, which was played at the Faribault (Minn.) Golf Course the last two days, included five teams.

The Mavericks shot rounds of 332 and 329 for a two-round total of 661.  Southwest Minnesota State, the next-closest competitor, was seven strokes back at 668.

A junior, Cihak fired rounds of 79 and 75 with her total score of 154 placed here eight strokes in front of Southwest Minnesota State's Lauren Driscoll and Courtni Frank, who both registered 162, along with MSU's Kelly Winter (81-81-162).

Sam Soulier (82-81=163) tied for fifth, freshman Sammy Youngquist (79-86=165) finished eighth, Megan Koch (82-84=166) finished ninth, Delaney Conrad (88-84=172), Lauren Rebrovich (87-85=172) and Madi McGinty (87-85=172) tied for 15th, Crystal Cariveau (87-86=173) was 19th and Ava Olson (89-85=175) tied for 20th.

Next action for Minnesota State is the Bemidji State Invitational Sept. 12-13.
