#4 Minnesota State Captures First NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Title Since 2016

ABERDEEN, S.D. --- The #4 ranked Minnesota State women's track and field team claimed their 11th conference title in team history with a first-place finish at the 2022 NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday evening on the campus of Northern State University. The Mavericks racked up 191 points on their way to their first conference title since 2016. Minnesota State earned 21 All-NSIC honors during the three-day meet.

Minnesota State was victorious in the 4x100m relay earning the NSIC title in the event with a time of 45.48. The team made up of Denisha Cartwright, Ja'Cey Simmons, Rose Cramer, and Makayla Jackson hold the top mark in division II.

Cartwright set a meet record and earned a NISC title in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.28 surpassing the mark of 13.40 set by Minnesota Duluth's Danielle Kohlway in 2019. Cartwright is ranked first in division II in the event. Kynnedi Malone garnered All-NSIC honors with a third-place finish in the event with a time of 14.19.

Rose Cramer finished third in the 400m dash with a time of 56.53 and earning All-NSIC honors.

Jackson earned her second of three individual championships in the 100m dash with a meet record with a time of 11.47. Jackson is currently tied for third in division II in the event. Cartwright and Simmons finished second and third earning All-NSIC honors with times of 11.68 and 11.82, respectively.

Jackson earned her second conference title in the 200m dash with a new school and meet record of 23.56. Jackson surpasses MSU's Brittany Henderson (2008) for the school record who held the record with a time of 23.61. Jackson is currently sixth in division II. Cartwright finished second in the event earning All-NSIC honors with a time of 23.80. Cartwright is seventh in division II currently.

Amanda Montplaisir finished second in the 5000m run earning all-conference recognition with a time of 17:20.16.

Samantha Sunnarborg finished second in the javelin throw earning All-NSIC accolades with a toss of 143' 7'' (42.53m). Sunnarborg is currently 35th in division II.

Makayla Jackson earned NSIC High Point Performer for the Championship as she won three events and was part of a winning relay to score 32.5 points during the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.


The qualifying Mavericks will return to action on Thursday May 26 as they will travel to Allendale, Mich., to take part in the 2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
