#4 Mavericks Compete at Drake Relays and Kip Janvrin Open

Minnesota State 4x200m relay team sets NCAA Division II record

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's track & field team traveled to Des Moines, Iowa and Indianola, Iowa to compete in the Drake Relays and the Kip Janvrin Open.

At the Drake Relays, in the 4x200m relay Minnesota State finished second with a time of 1:34.87. The team consisted of Denisha Cartwright, Rose Cramer, Ja'Cey Simmons, and Makayla Jackson. This mark broke the previous school record that was set in 2016 with a mark of 1:38.71 and with this performance this team set a NCAA Division II record in the event (previous record-holder was Saint Augustine's, 1:35.68, 4.26.2018).

Samantha Sunnarborg finished third in the heptathlon with 4486 total points. In the javelin throw Sunnarborg broke the school record with a throw of 139' 6'' (42.53m) that was previously held by Kaitlyn Smith from 2017 with a distance of 133' 10''.

Amanda Montplaisir finished 10th in the 3000m steeplechase with a school record of 10:34.84 which currently ranks ninth in the country.

The 4x100m relay prelim saw Minnesota State earn the top qualifying spot for tomorrow with a mark of 45.15. The team that consists of Denisha Cartwright, Ja'Cey Simmons, Rose Cramer, and Makayla Jackson currently hold the top spot in the nation.

In the triple jump Flore Gracia finished ninth with a leap of 40' 6.25'' (12.35m). Gracia currently sits fifth in the country in the event.

Katie Taylor finished 17th in the discus with a NCAA provisional mark of 153' 11'' (46.93m). With this mark Taylor currently sits 17th in the country. Taylor finished 19th in the shot put with a toss of 46' 4.75'' (14.14m). She is fifth in the nation.

In the long jump, Kary Petricka placed second with a distance of 19' 11'' (6.07m). Petricka ranks fourth in the nation in the event.

Makayla Jackson finished sixth in the preliminary round of the 100m dash with a time of 11.91. Jackson will compete in the finals tomorrow. She ranks second in division II in the event.

At the Kip Janvrin Open, Caitlyn Jones finished fourth in the 100m dash with a time of 12.11. Jones finished 13th in the 200m with a time of 26.35. She also finished 17th in the long jump with a distance of 16' 4.25'' (4.98m).

In the 100m hurdles, Kynnedi Malone finished third with a time of 14.32. Malone currently sits tied for 17th in the country. Malone finished 10th in the 200m dash with a time of 26.22.

The Mavericks return to action tomorrow for the final day of the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa with the first event starting at 8:45 a.m.
