ST. PETER, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team got back to its winning ways Sunday morning at home as it bested Upper Iowa 4-1.
With the win, MSU improves to 10-4 on the season, including a 4-2 NSIC record. With the loss, UIU drops to 6-5, including a 2-2 conference record.
Minnesota State claimed the first point of the dual as it won two of the three doubles matches. Freshmen
Avery Stilwell and
Elizabeth Felderman defeated Varvara Ogorodnikova and Lina Ziani 6-2 in the No. 1 doubles match, while freshmen
Brynn Psooy and
Lacee Fedeler bested Padmasree Murugan and Elaina Wall 6-4 in the No. 3 doubles match.
The Mavericks then went on to win three of the four completed singles matches to secure the 4-1 win. The two unfinished singles matches in which Felderman and Psooy were competing in were not finished due to MSU clinching the dual.
In the No. 2 singles match freshman
Hana Minisy defeated Jessa Michieli 7-5, 6-0, while Fedeler topped Wall in the No. 6 singles match by the scores of 6-0, 6-3. Freshman
Taylor Julsrud clinch the victory for the Mavericks as she won the No. 4 singles match against Lina Ziani 7-5, 6-4.
Minnesota State continues its season on Sunday, March 6, as it travels to Kearney, Neb., to take on CSU-Pueblo. The dual is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
