Mankato, Minn. --- #6 Minnesota State remained undefeated Friday evening as it topped Augustana 84-69 in an NSIC home game.
With the win, MSU improves to 8-0 (4-0 NSIC), while Augustana drops to 7-2 (2-2 NSIC) on the season.
The Vikings started with an early and short lead in the first quarter as they were up 3-2 but the Mavericks would make a run of 16-8 shooting at 57.14% and finish the quarter up 18-11.
At halftime, sophomore Destinee Bursch notched 10 points to lead the Mavericks. Junior Taylor Theusch netted eight points while junior Emily Herzberg added seven points.
The Mavericks saw the Vikings shoot a high of 69.23% and score 27 points to shorten the Maverick lead by 12 points closing the third quarter 65-54.
The Mavericks never trailed in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Vikings 20-17, as they went on to lock down the 84-69 win.
Junior Joey Batt and Bursch scored 20 points each to lead all Maverick scorers. Batt also added five assists, three rebounds and three steals. Bursch also added four rebounds, three steals and an assist. Junior Emily Herzberg notched 16 points, five rebounds, two steals and an assist.
As a unit, Minnesota State shot 47.6% from the field and scored 32 points off turnovers. They also passed out 12 assists and recorded 33 rebounds and 14 steals.
#6 Minnesota State continues its season at home tomorrow hosting Wayne State at Taylor Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
