Mankato, Minn. --- #6 Minnesota State remains undefeated Saturday evening as it rolled over Wayne State 98-59 in an Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference home game.
With the win, MSU improves to 9-0 (5-0 NSIC), while Wayne State drops to 7-2 (3-2 NSIC) on the season.
The undefeated Mavericks never trailed in the game and started off with a strong lead of 14 points allowing only one Wildcat point early in the first quarter. MSU would finish the first quarter leading 21-16.
At halftime, the Wildcats would get within three points but that would not be enough as MSU closed the second quarter with a 43-29 lead.
During the third quarter the Mavericks shot 44.44% on three pointers (4-of-9) and scored 33 points to 20 Wildcat points. MSU closed the third quarter with a 27-point lead at 76-49.
The Mavericks never trailed in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Wildcats 22-17. MSU posted a 69.23 shooting percentage in the fourth quarter to close the game with a 98-59 win.
Five different Mavericks had double-digits points in the game. Freshman Natalie Bremer led all Mavericks with 21 points, six rebounds, four steals, and two assists. Sophomore Destinee Bursch notched 20 points, while junior Joey Batt added 15 points and five assists. Junior Emily Herzberg scored 15 points and three rebounds, while sophomore Emily Russo added 12 points and four rebounds.
As a unit, Minnesota State shot 47.9% from the field and scored 36 points off turnovers. They also passed out 16 assists and recorded 35 rebounds and 21 steals.
#6 Minnesota State continues its season on the road Dec. 16th against Sioux Falls. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
