Mankato, Minn.--- Minnesota State won its fifth straight to open the season as they picked up an 80-71 nonconference win over UW-Parkside in Kensha, Wisconsin.

Led by Joey Batt's 11-17 effort from the field, including three three-pointers, the visiting Mavericks sunk 19 points to open the first quarter.

Minnesota State let the Ranger claw back in after being outscored 40-34 in the second and third quarters. It wasn't until the team leader, Joey Batt's posted 30 points in the final two quarters that gave the Mavericks the edge on the day.

Joey Batt has firmly planted herself in the MSU history books as she became the 23rd member of the Minnesota State 1,000 points club.

Now 5-0-0 on the season with today's result, Minnesota State plays Winona State in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contest Thursday in its next action.
