Mankato, Minn.--- Minnesota State competed the season sweep over St. Thomas with a 2-0 shutout in Mendota Heights.

The Mavericks were met by a persistent St. Thomas team who took advantage of the slim MSU lines by playing fast and aggressive. Despite only playing with three lines on offense and only a five-player unit on defense, the Mavericks still outshot the Tommies in the first period, 7-5.

St. Thomas came into the second period with an entirely different persona as it showed MSU their best hockey outshooting Minnesota state 16-9. Six different Tommies had several shots on Berg who came up big many times throughout the second period.

Minnesota State was bailed out by fantastic goaltending in the second and made sure to thank Berg in the offensive zone in the third. At the 9:28 mark of the third period, Taylor Otremba was able to punch in her fifth goal on the year to break the tie. Just three minutes later at the 12:10 mark, Claire Butorac gave Minnesota State a two-goal cushion to take all the wind out of UST's sails.

Alexa Berg highlighted the Mavericks success as she stared down all 27 shots to keep the Tommies off the board to grab her second shutout of the season as Minnesota State held onto its 2-0 victory.

The Mavericks (7-7-0, 5-7-0 WCHA) are back in action on Dec. 2nd when they travel to Minneapolis to face the Gophers for the second time this season.
