MANKATO, Minn. --- #12 Minnesota State is looking to extend its winning streak to six games heading into NSIC semi-final showdown with Minot State. The Mavericks are coming off a dominate performance against a determined Concordia St-Paul team as they racked up four goals against the CSP goaltender resulting in a 4-1 final improving to 14-1-4 overall. Minot came into the tournament at the four seed with a 9-2-8 overall record (8-1-6 NSIC) as they knocked off Norther State in the quarter finals.
Over the week,
Jenny Vetter,
Mackenzie Rath, and
Brian Bahl received NSIC players/coach of the year honors marking the second time for both Vetter and Bahl. Although the spotlight was on the players of the year,
Maille Mathis was the star of Monday's tournament play to knockoff Concordia St. Paul with two goals and an assist.
With the Mavericks heading into the final weekend of NSIC action as the top seed in the conference, Minnesota State will host the second semi-final match against Augustana and Bemidji. Regardless of the outcome, the championship game is being held at the Pitch on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Facing MISU: In the previous 15 matchups with MISU, the Mavericks hold a 9-1-4 record over the Beavers. Minot State is coming off a dominate season going 9-2-8 overall and 8-1-6 against conference opponents.
Minnesota State has already seen MISU this season in week 8 and struggled finding answers to MISU goalkeeper,
Maddie Kindred. The Mavericks settled with a 0-0 tie in their last matchup as they look for a more victorious outcome this time around.
