Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State claimed a 7-1 win over Wisconsin-Eau Claire in an exhibition women's hockey matchup Monday night at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center in downtown Mankato.
The host Mavericks outshot the visiting Blugolds 9-3 in the first period and at the end of the first 20 minutes of action held 2-0 first period lead on goals from Sydney Langseth at 13:57 and Claire Butorac at 19:06.
It became a 3-0 Minnesota State lead at 3:41 of the second on a power play goal by Taylor Otremba. Senior winger Kennedy Bobyk tallied on a shot from the right side of the crease at 11:36. Then, at 15:50, Madison Mashuga tucked in a loose puck before Langseth got her second of the game at 19:29. After 40 minutes of action the Mavericks held a 6-0 lead.
Brooke Bryant made it a 7-0 lead at 8:39 of the third period before UWEC's Sophie Rausch closed out scoring in the game with a backhand tally at 18:44.
Langseth finished with three points on two goals and an assist and Otremba had a goal and two assists.
The Mavericks owned a 34-9 advantage in shots on goal in the contest. Junior Lauren Barbro and senior Alexa Berg combined to make eight saves for Minnesota State in the contest.
The Mavericks (5-7-0 overall, 3-7-0 WCHA) have a league home-and-home series Saturday and Sunday with St. Thomas in their next action.
