Mavericks Top Mustangs in Road Dual

MARSHALL, Minn. —- The Minnesota State swimming and diving team bested Southwest Minnesota State 216-82 on the road Thursday evening.

With the win, MSU improves to 3-1 in dual action this season. With the loss, SMSU drops to 6-3. The Mavericks took first in 13 of the 16 events.

The Mavericks won both relay events. The team of sophomore Abby Gronholz, freshman Megan Schultz, senior Nicole Beckman and sophomore Maija Carriveau won the 200 medley relay event with a time of 1:51.28. Carriveau, along with juniors Olivia Hudoba, Ella DeFever and Brooke Shell won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.19 as well.

Schultz won two individual events including the 100 IM (1:02.27) and the 50 breaststroke (31.30). Shell won the 100 breaststroke also, with a time of 1:09.62.

Freshman Lauren Fisher won the 1,000 freestyle event with a time of 10:57.30, while Hudoba won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:00.82.

Gronholz took first place in the 50 backstroke (27.47), while freshman Kolby Schendel won the 100 backstroke (1:00.67). Junior Ainslee Hemmen won the 100 butterfly event with a time of 1:02.86, while Beckman finished first in the 50 butterfly with a time of 26.96.

In the diving events, sophomore Sydney Hanson took first in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 243.30, while freshman Jenna Elizarraras won the 3-meter diving event with 256.65 points.

Minnesota State continues its season on Saturday, November 5, as it takes on Gustavus Adolphus and UW-Stevens Point at 1:00 p.m. The Mavericks will host the diving events, while the Gusties host the swimming events.
