MANKATO, Minn. --- #13 Minnesota State is set for its final match of the 2022 regular season ahead of the NSIC playoff tournament. The Mavericks had already clinched home field in the first-round last weekend against Southwest Minnesota State and are looking for more as it takes on a 7-5-5 Golden Bears team.
Brynn Desens and
Mackenzie Rath earned NSIC Hornor's for their performance this past weekend. Desens finished the weekend with four goals and Mackenzie stopped all shot her way resulting in two more shutouts to add to her resume. With two victories at the Pitch over the weekend, the Mavericks improved to 12-1-4 and remain undefeated in conference play with a record of 10-0-4.
Facing CSP: In their previous 20 matchups with CSP, the Mavericks hold a dominate 18-1-1 record over the Golden Bears. Concordia-St. Paul. CSP is coming off a terrific 2021 season finishing with a 10-7-3 overall record and has carried over its success translating to a 7-5-5 and currently holds the fifth spot in the NSIC.
In the previous matchup, Concordia-St. Paul gave the Mavericks trouble forcing the previous matchup on November 5th, 2021 in double overtime. The Mavericks were not able to find an answer settling for a 0-0 tie.
Scouting the Golden Bears: The CSP offense is led by Juniors
Nikki Anderson and
Katie Anderson who are responsible for 30 of the Golden Bears 66 total points on the season. In goal, CSP relies on sophomore
Ashlyn Waldon who has accumulated 1,215 minutes over the season. Waldon owns a .780 save percentage and a modest 0.96 goals-against average for a 6-5-3 record.
