Mankato, Minn.--- #19 Minnesota State continues its torturous run through the NSIC with dominate wins in now four of its last five matches following a decisive 3-1 victory in Winona.
It was clear the Mavericks looked to enforce their will early in the game resulting is several well sustained pushes from the MSU offense.
Maillie Mathis and
Nadia Lowery teamed up on two back-to-back rushes that both resulted in Mathis goals at both the 9:14 mark and 18:52 mark of the first half.
The Warriors were forced to limit their rushes to lock down the box with the ensuing pressure from the Mavericks resulting in a scoreless first half for Winona.
MSU was not satisfied with its two-goal cushion and looked to start the second half in similar fashion to the first.
Jenny Vetter caught the Warriors defenders pinching and used her speed to create space ripping her shot passed Winona goalkeeper
Chloe Swanson at the 52:48 mark of the second half.
Winona State caught the Mavericks flat-footed after the Vetter goal, taking full advantage of its opportunity. WSU's
Weil Reanne sent one passed
Mackenzie Rath to cut the Mavericks lead back to two at the 54:45 mark.
The lead would hold steady till the final horn blew giving MSU its eighth win on the season. Minnesota State is back in action Friday as it travels to St. Cloud to take on the huskies.
