Mankato, Minn.--- The Mavericks came into today's matchup with a 26-7-2 all-time record against the Huskies looking to make it 27.
Now deep into the season, MSU has made a fast start its signature with
Brynn Desens signing for the Mavericks today. In less than 10 minutes into the first half,
Maille Mathis sent a pass into the box with Desens capitalizing on her opportunity.
St. Cloud knew they didn't live up to their offensive capabilities early and stepped up to go shot-for-shot with MSU. SCSU finished the game ahead on the shot board 19-18. The Huskies are one of only two teams this season that outshot the Mavericks.
Late in the 80' mark, SCSU finally broke the tie as
Megan Kirby sent one past
Mackenzie Rath to stun the Mavericks and put the Mavericks in crunch time to respond.
Naturally, with 22 previous game-winning goals,
Jenny Vetter had yet another dramatic moment on the field sending her shot passed the hands of goalkeeper
Evie Kohn to kill the Huskies hope with a minuscule six minutes remaining.
With the Mavericks 2-1 win against the Huskies, MSU improves to 9-1-2 and head to Duluth for a 3 p.m. Sunday showdown.
