DECORAH, Iowa --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team split a pair of duals against Luther College Saturday afternoon. The Mavericks claimed a 6-3 win in dual one, while the Norse garnered an 8-1 win in dual two.
The Mavericks now own a 1-1 record on the season.
Dual No. 1 saw the Mavericks claim two of the three doubles matches to go up 2-1 early. The duo junior
Tristen Bryant-Otake and freshman
Avery Stilwell bested Shelby Cook and Sofia Sackett by the score of 8-2 in the No. 1 doubles match. Freshmen
Elizabeth Felderman and
Taylor Julsrud turned in an 8-7 (7-5) win in the No. 2 doubles match against Lexi Hastings and Natalia Smith also.
MSU would go on to win four of the six singles matches in the No. 1 dual to lock down its 6-3 win.
Bryant-Otake bested Cook 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles match, while Felderman tallied a 7-5, 6-3 win over Smith in the No. 2 singles match. Stilwell posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Sackett in the No. 3 singles match, while freshman
Hana Minisy defeated Montserrat Ramírez-Mainou 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles match also.
In the No. 2 dual, the Norse won all three of the doubles matches to go up 3-0 early. The duo of freshman Hannah Mayer and Minisy nearly took the No. 1 doubles match but Luther's Bruna Costa and Kiley Nolan held on for the 8-7 (7-5) win.
Junior
Kjerstin Hall tallied the lone singles victory for the Mavericks in the No. 2 dual. Hall posted a 6-2, 3-6, 11-9 win over Jessica Dahl in the No. 4 singles match. Freshman
Grace Ackerman went to a deciding third set in the No. 1 singles match against Kiley Nolan but Nolan was able to come away with the 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 win.
The Mavericks continue their fall schedule on Sunday as they take on Saint Ambrose at 1:00 p.m., and Wartburg at 4:00 p.m. Both duals will take place in Waverly, Iowa.
