The Minnesota State Mavericks volleyball team (7-3, 2-0 NSIC) thrashed the Minot State Beavers volleyball team (0-7, 0-2 NSIC) in NSIC action. The Mavericks took a three set sweep this afternoon at Taylor Center (25-14, 25-12, 25-12).
Coming off a win in the first matchup of NSIC action last night the Mavericks looked to go 2-0 on the weekend. The Mavericks squared off against the Beavers in their second match of the weekend. The Mavericks came out on fire as the reeled off 11 straight points to start set one. The Mavericks had their way with the Beavers and never took their foot off the pedal. The Beavers would only get as close as nine before the Mavericks thwarted any progress and won the set 25-14.
In set two the dominance continued. The Mavericks poured it on again and quickly gained a 18- 8 advantage over the Beavers. From there, the Mavericks would go on a 7-3 run and quickly put away the Beavers in set two 25-12. The Mavericks had no intention of stopping their command in this match as they once again propelled themselves to big lead. The Mavericks took a 19-12 lead on the Beavers before they went on a 6-0 run to close out the set and match with a victory.
Junior Mariah Edgington led all Mavericks in kills with 14 in the match. Senior Dana Schindler contributed 20 assists this afternoon. Once again the Mavericks were led in blocks by freshman Kiya Durant with 3 and senior Mara Quam added 14 digs to the effort.
The Mavericks will return to action next week as they will face Winona State Tuesday, September 21st with first serve set for 6:00 p.m. at Taylor Center. The Mavericks then hit the road for the weekend as they face Northern State Friday, September 24th in Aberdeen S.D. with first serve slated for 6:00 p.m., Saturday, September 25th the Mavericks take on MSU Moorhead on the road with first serve at 2:00 p.m.
