OWATONNA, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team earned its second sweep of the season Sunday afternoon in Owatonna, Minn., as it defeated Hamline 9-0.
With the win, MSU improves to 2-8 on the season, while HU drops to 0-2.
The Mavericks opened the dual winning all three of the doubles matches to jump out to an early 3-0 lead. Junior
Tyanna Washa and sophomore
Lauren Goth bested Lily Vang and Taylor Vyskocil 8-4 in the No. 1 singles match, while freshman
Dee Dokken and sophomore
Kjerstin Hall tallied a 8-0 win over Taylor Hopkins and Jersi McAlpine in the No. 2 singles match. Freshmen
Abigail Clayton and
Sarah Johansen topped Peyton Buerman and Janie Schwartz 8-6 in the No. 3 doubles match also.
Minnesota State then won all six of the singles matches, including four in straight sets to finish the 9-0 sweep. Washa won the No. 1 single match vs. Vyskocil by the scores of 6-0, 6-1, while Dokken bested Hopkins 6-1, 3-6, 10-2 in the No. 2 singles match. Goth defeated Vang 3-6, 6-3, 10-5 in the No. 3 singles match, while Hall tallied a 6-1, 6-4 win over Schwartz in the No. 4 singles match. Clayton added a 6-0, 6-3 win over McAlpine in the No. 5 singles match, while Johansen notched a 6-1, 6-2 win over Buerman in the No. 6 singles match.
Minnesota State returns to action on Sunday, March 21, it takes on Gustavus Adolphus and Southwest Minnesota State in St. Peter. The duals are scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m., and 11:30 a.m., respectively.
