Bahl Earns 143rd Victory at MSU over Southwest Minnesota State to Become Minnesota State’s Winningest Coach

MANKATO, Minn.. -- #24 Minnesota State extended its winning streak to 11 matches and recorded its ninth shutout over that span after a 2-0 victory over Sothwest Minnesota State on Senior Day at The Pitch, Sunday afternoon.

MSU's win marks the 143rd victory for head coach Brian Bahl at Minnesota State. He now stands alone as the Mavericks' all-time winningest coach after passing former head coach Chris Miskec (142 victories from 1996-07).

With the win, the Mavericks improve to 14-2-1 on the season, including an 12-1-1 record in NSIC action. With the loss, the Mustangs drop to 4-11-1 on the season, including a 3-10-1 conference record.

Freshman forward Maille Mathis led MSU to victory with a goal in each half en route to the Mavericks' 2-0 win. Mathis scored her first goal in the 30th minute off an assist from Olivia Thoen. In the 66th minute, Mathis provided an insurance marker to make it 2-0 off assists from Molly Mosher and Jenny Vetter.

Sophomore Mackenzie Rath (9-1-1) picked up the win and her eighth career shutout as she stopped two shots in the contest. Julianne Arballo (2-2-0) took the loss while making 10 saves.

In total, MSU outshot the Mustangs 30-5. The Mavericks also enjoyed a 15-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Minnesota State hits the road next weekend for Concordia-St. Paul. The Mavericks and Golden Bears kick-off their match Friday night at 5:00 p.m. to wrap up the regular season. The NSIC Tournament is set to begin Wednesday, Nov. 10. The Mavericks have home-field advantage for the first round and currently stand second in the NSIC standings, one point behind Bemidji State.
