BURNSVILLE, Minn. --- The Minnesota State men's basketball team has been picked to finish third in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

MSU received one first-place vote and 192 points to claim the third spot in the poll. MSU Moorhead topped the poll with 13 first-place votes and 222 points, while Wayne State received two first-place votes and 195 points for second. Augustana (4th/175 points) and Upper Iowa (5th/164 points) rounded out the top-five.

The Mavericks and Wayne State were both claimed the top ranking in the NSIC South Division poll as they both received 42 points.

Sophomore Quincy Anderson was named Minnesota State's Player to Watch for the upcoming season. Last season, Anderson started in all 17 games and led the Mavericks in scoring with 17.1 points per game. He also averaged 6.1 rebounds per game and shot 44.8% from the field.

Minnesota State opens its 2021-22 campaign on Friday, November 12, as it takes on Missouri Western State in the Central Region Challenge in Kansas City, Mo. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
