Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Mavericks Swept by #16 St. Cloud State

The Minnesota State Volleyball team (8-7, 3-4 NSIC) traveled to #16 St. Cloud State (11-4, 6-1 NSIC) Saturday afternoon. The Mavericks were defeated in three straight sets by the Huskies with scores of (22-25, 21-25, 16-25).  

In set one, the Mavericks fell behind right away. The Huskies took an early 7-3 advantage. From there, the Mavericks would fall to a big deficit by a score of 17-10.  Then, the Mavericks went on a 7-0 tear to even the set at 17. The Mavericks and Huskies would trade points to get to a 20-20 stale mate but, the Huskies then preceded to take five of the final seven points to take set one. 

Set two saw much of the same for the Mavericks. The Mavericks fell into a 12-7 hole but, they battled hard to get within three of the Huskies with a score of 15-13 after a 3-1run. The Mavericks were on the comeback trail in set two and were able to get within two late with a score of 20-22. That would be as close as they would get as the Huskies went on and took the last three of the four points to claim victory in set two. 

In set three, the Mavericks struggled against the Huskies fire power. The Huskies went on a 4-0 and a 3-0 run to take a 7-2 advantage over the Mavericks. The Mavericks would get within four later on with a score of 6-10 but, that would be as close as the Mavericks would get in this set. The Huskies would extend their lead by as much as 10 late in the set with a score of 24-14 and would go on to win the set and the match. 

The Mavericks were led in kills by junior outside hitter Jessica Nelson who had 11 in the match. Sophomore Ellie Danielson and freshman Kiya Durant both had 4 blocks in the contest. Senior Dana Schindler added 18 assists in the effort. Senior Mara Quam had 10 digs in the match. Making her only 57 away from the Minnesota State all-time digs record. 

The Maverick volleyball team will return home next weekend for a pair of matches. On Friday October 8th the Mavericks take on Minnesota Crookston with first serve set for 6:00 p.m., Then, on Saturday October 9th the Mavericks square off against Bemidji State with first serve slated for 2:00 p.m.
