Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State University Maverick men's track and field program officially opened its 2021 season with an 88-29 win in a home dual, the Chuck Petersen Open, against NSIC opponent Concordia-St. Paul.
In the Dual the Mavericks had a first-place finisher in 12 of the 14 events.
In the 60m hurdles,
Justus Adams finished first with a time of 8.27.
Nicholas Sharma finished first in the 60m dash with a time of 7.03 in the finals and a 7.01 in the qualifying round.
Tanner Maier finished first in the one mile run with a time of 4:24.93 while
Carter Nesvold finished first in the 400m dash with a time of 49.77.
In the 1000m run
Ben Schmied finished first with a time of 2:37.53 while the Mavericks took the top six spots in the 200m dash with
Abel Christiansen finishing first with a time of 23.21.
Minnesota State wrapped up the track events with a win in the 4x400m relay and a time of 3:32.56.
In the high jump
Deveyonn Brown recorded a 2.05m (6'8.75") jump to win the event and achieve a national provisional mark, tying for the sixth best jump in DII this season.
Carson Dittel finished first in the pole vault with a top clear of 4.55m (14'11").
Caleb Kath finished first in the long jump with a top mark of 7.00m (22'11.75") while
Stephen Ayobamidele finished first in the triple jump with a mark of 13.33m (43'9").
In the throws,
Bedale Naba finished first in the shot put with a top throw of 16.13m (52'11") While
Nicholas Hudson recorded provisional qualifying, and career best, weight throw of 18.23m (59'9.75") which currently ranks 16
th best in DII.
The Mavericks return to action Saturday, Jan. 30
th with a home event, the Mark Schuck Dual against the Winona State Warriors with events scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
