Mankato, Minn. ---  Reggie Lutz had three points in helping lead #2 Minnesota State to a 4-0 win over Ferris State in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game played in Mankato Saturday.

Junior goaltender Dryden McKay was exemplary again in stopping all 11 shots he faced in picking up his sixth shutout in nine appearances on the season.

Senior winger Walker Duehr converted on a nice pass from Akito Hirose to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead at 12:51 of the opening period.  The goal is the first of the year for Duehr. A one-timer from Reggie Lutz from the right circle with Minnesota State on a power play at 17:36 made it 2-0. The goal is Lutz's fifth of 2020-21.

Senior center Jake Jaremko potted his first goal of the year at 3:16 of the second after taking a pass from Lutz. Sophomore defenseman Tony Malinowski drew the secondary assist on Jaremko's goal for his first career point.  Senior winger Dallas Gerads found the back of the net at 18:37 of the second with the Mavericks on the power play.  The goal is the fourth of the year for Gerads.  At the end of the second period, the Mavericks held a 4-0 lead and a 24-5 advantage in shots on goal.

The two teams battled through a scoreless third period as the Mavericks upped their unbeaten streak to six games.

McKay was perfect in the game, with his 11 saves giving him 20th career shutout which places him in a tie for third on the NCAA all-time list.

Lutz, who finished with a team-high six shots on goal, had a three-point game on a goal and two assists, while Gerads had two points on a goal and an assist. Led by junior defenseman Wyatt Aamodt, who had six blocked shots, the Mavericks finished with 19 blocked shots in the contest.

The Mavericks upped their record to 8-1-1 overall, 5-0-0 WCHA with tonight's win, while Ferris State falls to 1-9-0 overall, 0-5-0 WCHA.

The two teams close out the two-game series Sunday with a 3:07 p.m. face-off scheduled.
