Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's hockey team earned a 1-1 tie against #8 Minnesota Duluth Saturday at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.
 
Before the series finale began, five seniors of the women's hockey team were honored at senior day. Emily Antony, Chloe Crosby, Jordan Jackson, Sofia Poinar and McKenzie Sederberg all played their final home game as a Maverick.
 
After a scoreless first period, the Bulldogs broke through with the first goal of the game at the 14:10 mark in the second period. Senior winger Sydney Brodt received a pass in the middle of the ice from below the red line by sophomore center Gabbie Hughes and put the puck past freshman netminder Calla Frank. The Mavericks trailed 1-0 after two periods of play but led in shots on goal 21-16.

The Mavericks continued to trail the Bulldogs until the 19:37 mark in the third period. After pulling Frank to gain an extra attacker, senior blueliner McKenzie Sederberg hit a one timer from the point that glanced off senior netminder Maddie Rooney's pads and into the net. Her fourth goal of the season forced the game to go into overtime.
 
Only one shot on net was recorded in the first overtime by the Mavericks as the game ultimately went down as a tie in the book. The Bulldogs earned the extra conference point by scoring the the 3-on-3 overtime period with senior defenseman Jalyn Elmes scoring the goal.
 
Freshman Calla Frank (6-5-3) made 21 saves through regulation and the first overtime in the tie and picked up one more in the 3-on-3 overtime.

The Mavericks outshot the Bulldogs by a 27-22 margin. Minnesota State went zero-for-one on the power play and did not commit a penalty to give Minnesota Duluth a man advantage chance.
 
Now standing with a 11-16-6 (4-14-4-3 WCHA) record, the Mavericks will travel to the twin cities to play their final regular season series against the #4 Minnesota Gophers on Feb. 21-22 at Ridder Arena.
