Bemidji, Minn. --- Fourth-rated Minnesota State got a pair of goals from senior winger Reggie Lutz and junior netminder Dryden McKay was stellar and the Mavericks skated to a 5-0 win at 16th-rated Bemidji State in season-opening action Sunday.

Besides Lutz's goal-scoring heroics, Minnesota State senior Jake Jaremko chipped in with three assists, junior forward Julian Napravnik had a two-point game on a goal and an assist and newcomer Todd Burgess had two assists.

The first goal of the season for the Mavericks came off of the stick of junior defenseman Andy Carroll, whose shot from the left boards beat Zach Driscoll at 13:49 of the opening period.

Freshman blueliner Jake Livingstone got his first goal as a collegian at 6:03 of the second when he jumped up and wired a shot that beat Dricoll from the right circle. Lutz got his first of the game at five minutes later and after 40 minutes of action, the Mavericks held a 3-0 lead.

Lutz took a nice feed from Jaremko before scoring his second of the game at 8:25 of the third and junior forward Julian Napravnik got his first goal of the season at 11:17 off of a rebound chance in closing out the scoring in the game.

McKay, a First Team All-American and the WCHA's Goaltender of the Year last season, stopped all 21 shots he faced in picking up his 15th career shutout.

The Mavericks, who outshot the Beavers by a 27-21 margin in the contest, were 0-for-1 in power play chances, while the Beavers went 0-for-2 in man advantage situations.

Minnesota State (1-0, 0-0 WCHA) and Bemidji State (0-1, 0-0 WCHA) face-off again tomorrow (Monday) at 3:07 p.m.
