Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's hockey team defeated St. Cloud State 5-3 with the help of two goals from both McKenzie Sederberg and Tristen Truax Friday night at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.
 
The Mavericks scored the opening goal for the seventh time this season at the 10:07 mark in the first period. The lone goal scored in the period came off the stick of senior blueliner McKenzie Sederberg for her first goal of the season. The wrister from above the left dot made it through the pads of junior netminder Emma Polusny and trickled across the red line for the goal. MSU outshot SCSU 15-6 in the opening stanza.
 
Minnesota State held a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes of play in a back-and-forth second period. The Mavericks first extended their lead to 2-0 when junior defenseman Tristen Truax beat Polusny to her glove side for her fifth goal of the season at the 7:56 mark. St. Cloud State stormed back and scored twice within 20 seconds to tie the game up at two. Freshman winger Klara Hymlarova beat sophomore netminder Abigail Levy to the near post at the 11:32 mark. A delayed penalty was called on the play and the Huskies scored on the ensuing power play with freshman forward Olivia Cvar netting the goal. MSU took back the lead at the 14:53 mark when freshman winger Kelsey King fired a wrist shot from the right dot to the low left corner of the net. King's fourth goal of the season gave the Mavericks the 3-2 lead.

Minnesota State put the game out of reach in the third period. Sederberg scored her second goal of the game and of the season at the 5:05 mark as she bounced the puck off the left post and into the net. Truax picked up her second goal of the game on a power play at the 11:43 mark. Truax went top shelf from a bad angle on the left side of the net for her sixth goal of the season. St. Cloud State would score the last goal before it was all said and done at the 19:07 mark with senior winger Hallie Theodosopoulos credited with the goal.
 
Sophomore Abigail Levy (4-8-2) collected her first win in net since Nov. 1, 2019 against Merrimack by making 17 saves.
 
Senior winger Emily Antony led the way with three points on the night on three assists. This is the second time Antony has posted three assists in a game this season, which is a career high and tied for the sixth most in a game at MSU. Junior forward Brittyn Fleming and sophomore blueliner Anna Wilgren both picked up two apples a piece as well.

The Mavericks outshot the Huskies by a 41-20 margin. Minnesota State went one-for-two on the power play, while St. Cloud State scored on the one time it had the man advantage.
 
Now standing with a 8-12-4 (3-10-2-2 WCHA) record, the Mavericks will look to finish the second sweep of the season over the Huskies tomorrow at 3:07 p.m.
