Bemidji, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball (9-1, 2-0 NSIC) team traveled to Crookston, Minn., to face the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles (2-8, 0-2 NSIC), and won the match 3-1 (25-25, 25-27, 25-18, 25-9).
The Mavericks wasted no time in the first set, quickly jumping out to a 6-1 lead.  This early edge allowed them to coast to a 25-14 win in the set.  The second set was back in forth with neither team able to build a lead larger than two points.  After Minnesota
State tied the set at 25-25, Minnesota Crookston scored back to back points to win it 27-25 and tie the match at 1-1.
In the third set, the teams managed to keep things tight before the Mavericks were able to pull away with a 14-11 lead.  Despite a late charge from the Golden Eagles, the Mavericks were able to take the set 25-21, earning a 2-1 match lead. 
The Mavericks ran the table in the fourth set, starting with a 9-1 run and winning the set 25-9 to take the match 3-1. 
Morgan Olson lead all players with 17 kills while 
Mara Quam recorded 23 digs.  As a team, Minnesota State recorded 63 kills compared to 33 from Minnesota Crookston.  
 
Next weekend the Mavericks will play their first home matches of the season with a Friday matchup against St. Cloud State at 6:00 p.m., before taking on Minnesota Duluth Saturday at 4:00 p.m., at Taylor Center.
