MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team (9-2, 2-1 NSIC) hosted No. 15 St. Cloud State (11-0, 3-0 NSIC) Friday evening at Taylor Center and dropped the match in straight sets (25-21, 25-23, 25-14).
The first set was back-and-forth with neither squad able to gain enough momentum to take a commanding lead. After six tied scores and four lead changes, the Mavericks would eventually drop the first set 25-21.
Minnesota State then held an early 14-11 lead in the second set before the St. Cloud State knotted things up at 21-21. The teams traded points at the end until the Huskies took the set 25-23.
In the third set, the Mavericks managed to keep things tight early on before St. Cloud State jumped out to its largest lead of the night at 18-8. The Huskies remained in control the rest of the set, leading by as much as 13 on their way to a 25-14 win.
Morgan Olson led the offense with 12 kills while Mara Quam recorded a team-high 13 digs. As a team, Minnesota State recorded 33 kills compared to St. Cloud State's 46 kills.
The Mavericks will be back in action Saturday when they host Minnesota Duluth at Taylor Center with first serve set for 4:00 p.m.
