Mavericks Pick Up Pair of Wins Over Minnesota Crookston

Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State continued conference play with a pair wins 8-0 and 2-0, against Minnesota Crookston Friday afternoon in Mankato, Minn.

With the results, the Mavericks move to 27-17 on the season and 12-10 in conference play while the Peacocks move to 13-33, 2-20 in the NSIC. 

Game 1

Mackenzie Ward (14-11) started the game for Minnesota State and earned the complete game shutout with allowing one hit while striking out 10 batters. Paige Pitlick (6-18) started for the Golden Eagles and took the loss pitching three innings and allowing four runs on six hits.

The Mavericks got on the board first with two runs in the second inning. Courtney Potter tripled in Julia Bastian before Kayla Moky added an RBI single, plating Potter.

The Mavericks extended their lead to 5-0 in the fourth inning thanks in large part to a Cori Kennedy 2 RBI single through the left side which brought home Moky and McKenzie Paap.

The Mavericks pushed across three more runs in the fifth inning, capped by a Hannah Hastings single through the right side that scored Kennedy, ending the game with a final score of 8-0 by run rule.    

Moky went 2-3 from the plate on the game with two RBI and two runs. Potter went 1-2 from the plate with an RBI and a run scored while Kennedy recorded two RBI.   Paap finished the day 2-3 at the plate with a walk and stole three bases in the game to score two runs. 

Game 2
Lexi Schoper (7-3) started the game for Minnesota State and held the Golden Eagles to five hits in six and a third innings of work to earn the win.  Ward then pitched two thirds of an inning to earn her fourth save of the season. Taylor Graven (5-9) pitched the complete game for

Minnesota Crookston allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out five, while taking the loss.

The Mavericks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the first inning when Paap scored on a throwing error after forcing the issue by stealing third base.

In the third inning, Hastings extended the Mavericks lead to 2-0 with an RBI single to left field plating Amber Kral.

With runners at first and third and one out, Ward relieved Schoper and immediately caused the Golden Eagle batter to line out back to herself before catching the runner at first attempting to tag for the game ending 1-3 double play. 

Minnesota State will remain home tomorrow, taking on Bemidji State with first pitch scheduled for noon.
