Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State swept the doubleheader Friday to take the first two games of the three-game series against Wayne State by the scores of 11-2 and 4-3 in 10 innings.

Minnesota State (29-8, 20-5 NSIC) extended its winning streak to 11 games with the help of senior infielder Ty Buck who capped off the sweep with a walk-off single in game two.

GAME 1 – Minnesota State 11, Wayne State 2

The Mavericks scored all 11 runs in the first three innings of the ball game to take a commanding lead on the way to a win.

Minnesota State took a 5-0 lead after the first inning with the help of six hits and an error, while still leaving the bases loaded. Senior catcher Tom Imholte and freshman shortstop Nick Altermatt began the inning with a single and a double to put runners on second and third. Senior right fielder Jordan Hart reached on an error that allowed both runners to score. Junior first baseman Ty Buck and junior second baseman Teddy Petersen hit back-to-back singles to load the bases with no outs. Sophomore pitcher Cam Kline brought in two on a single to right field, but was thrown out at second trying to advance on the throw home. Sophomore third baseman Mitch Frederick reached on a fielder's choice as the first baseman tried to throw out Petersen at home and instead Petersen scored the fifth run of the inning.

The Mavericks added one in the bottom of the second inning as Kline lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to bring in Hart from third base.

Minnesota State scored its final five runs in the bottom of the third inning to put the game out of reach. Sophomore center fielder Jack Waletich singled to open the inning and after two outs, Altermatt singled to put runners on first and second. Hart then doubled to right field to push both runners across the plate. Buck reached on another Wildcat error that allowed Hart to come around and score as Buck advanced to second. Petersen hit another single to bring in Buck from second base and then Kline tripled to up his RBI total to four in the game.

Wayne State scored its two runs of the game in the top of the fifth inning off a long ball to left field. Senior left fielder Travis Miller began the inning with a double down the right field line and with one out, senior shortstop Jake Lorenzini left the yard.

Five different Mavericks had two hits in the game as Kline led the way with four RBI and Hart added two of his own.

Kline (8-0) pitched six innings to stay perfect on the year, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks with nine strikeouts. Senior right-hander Bobby Gauvreau finished the game out with a clean seventh inning and struck out one batter.

The Mavericks won the second game in 10 innings with a walk-off hit off the bat of Buck for a doubleheader sweep.

The Wildcats took a 3-0 lead in the first half inning with all three runs being unearned due to a Maverick error. With the bases loaded, Miller was hit by a pitch to bring in a run and then left fielder Colin Chick singled to right field to bring in the other two runs.

The Mavericks slowly began to chip away at the WSC lead in the bottom of the third inning with a single run. Frederick and Waletich singled to open the inning and junior left fielder Ty Denzer laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up. Imholte grounded out to the second baseman to score the run in the inning.

Two innings later, Minnesota State tied the game up at three off of two hits and an error in the inning.
