Mavericks Return Home For Pair of Doubleheaders With Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State softball team will continue NSIC play with a pair of doubleheaders, starting with games vs Minnesota Crookston Friday with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.  Saturday, the Mavericks will face Bemidji State with first pitch at 12:00 p.m.
 
Mavericks at a Glance: Minnesota State (25-17, 10-10 NSIC) went 5-3 last week with a two game sweep of Southwest Minnesota State, a pair of losses to St. Cloud State, a two game split with Minnesota Duluth, and a two game sweep of Upper Iowa.  

Impact Mavericks: Senior catcher Cori Kennedy currently leads the team with a .363 batting average hitting in 19 runs while scoring 17.  Sophomore Emma Schifferle leads the team with 26 runs batted in and a team leading seven home runs on the season.   

Sophomore pitcher Mackenzie Ward leads the Mavericks with 13 wins and currently holds a 2.69 ERA while holding opposing batters to a .225 average.  Ward recorded her first career no-hitter against Pittsburg State in a 2-0 win March 22, 2019.  

Top Of The Record Book: Senior McKenzie Paap has 24 stolen bases this season. The Excelsior, Minn., native has totaled 112 career stolen bases, which is the most in Minnesota State history.  Paap has also scored 196 runs in her career, which is also a school record.  Paap has set the team record for career hits with 309 and counting.  All three records fell during the two-game series with Upper Iowa on April 16, 2019.

Scouting Minnesota Crookston: Minnesota Crookston is located in Crookston, Minn., and is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Golden Eagles are 13-31 (2-18 NSIC) on the season.  Minnesota Crookston is led by first year head coach Travis Owen.

The Golden Eagles are led by Malia Pula who is batting .291 and has 22 runs scored and 23 RBI on the season.  Paige Pitlick leads Minnesota Crookston in wins with six on the season and a 4.27 ERA.

Tuesday's games mark the 19th and 20th meetings between the teams and two seasons ago the Mavericks swept the Golden Eagles with 12-1 and 9-0 wins. 

Scouting Bemidji State: Bemidji State is located in Bemidji, Minn., and is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).    The Beavers are currently 22-22 (5-15 NSIC) on the season and are led by eighth year head coach Rick Supinski.  

Bemidji State is led on offense by Jessica Burlingame who is batting .394 on the season with 40 runs scored and 29 RBI. Stephi Dulum leads the way with a 2.41 era and a 9-11 record.  

These games mark the 30th and 31st all-time meetings between the two teams and last season the Mavericks swept the Beavers with 8-0 and 5-0 wins.

Looking Ahead: The Mavericks take to the road Wednesday for a doubleheader with Sioux Falls with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m. before returning home to close out the regular season with doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday with Northern State and MSU Moorhead.
