Mavericks Walk-Off against Findlay in Bottom of the Ninth

Auburndale, Fla. --- Minnesota State walked-off against Findlay to complete comeback in the sixth game of the Florida trip Wednesday night.

The Mavericks (7-2) came back from an early 3-0 deficit to the Oilers (3-2) with junior designated hitter Ty Buck hitting the walk-off single to left field to win it for MSU.

The Oilers scored a run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 advantage over the Mavericks. In the first inning, sophomore third baseman Tyler Burley reached on a two out infield single and then stole second base. Senior left fielder Nic Varda singled down the right field line to bring in Burley before being thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double.

Findlay put together three straight singles to open the bottom of the second frame with senior first baseman Trevor Anderson picking up the RBI. Varda drove in the third run of the game with a single through the right side that scored sophomore center fielder Ethan St. Clair.

Minnesota State answered in the bottom of the third inning to get on the board. Junior second baseman Teddy Petersen single with one out and senior catcher Tom Imholte followed with a double to advance Petersen to third base. Buck was able to put the ball in play by grounding out to second base, but picked up an RBI in the process.

The Mavericks tied the game in bottom of the seventh inning with three straight singles with two outs. Junior third baseman Tory Miller had a bunt single, Petersen singled through the left side and Imholte drove in Miller with a single to center field. After a Buck walk to load the bases, a balk by the Findlay pitcher plated Petersen to tie the game up 3-3.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, MSU was able to load the bases again beginning with a walk by junior pinch hitter Ty Denzer, a double by Petersen that advanced Denzer to third and an intentional walk to Imholte. Buck came through with a walk-off hit to the warning track that scored Denzer to give the Mavericks their third straight win.

Petersen and freshman shortstop Nick Altermatt collected three hits in today's game with Imholte adding another two.

Sophomore right-hander Trevor Divinski finished the second straight complete game of the season for the Mavericks after starting on Sunday. In his nine innings of work, Divinski allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks.
