ST. CLOUD, Minn. --- Minnesota State was unable to overcome a three-goal second period by St. Cloud State in 4-1 loss in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action Tuesday at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

After a scoreless first period, the Huskies scored three goals in the next 20 minutes to take a 3-0 lead into the second intermission. SCSU was able to score off initial saves by freshman netminder
Abigail Levy on all three goals. Junior forward
Kayla Friesen scored the first goal 1:30 into the period as she beat Levy stick side. Senior winger
Hannah Potrykus found the open net on the second goal halfway through the period. The third goal came on a power play opportunity as Levy made two close range saves before junior winger
Hallie Theodosopoulos lit the lamp on the third try.

The Huskies scored one more goal in the third period as Potykus scored her second goal of the night off of another rebound. The Mavericks were able to avoid the shutout with a goal by junior forward
Taylor Gulenchyn. Scoring high and to sophomore netminder
Emma Polusny's stick side, Gulenchyn notched her first goal of the season.

Abigail Levy turned away 26 shots in the loss and her record drops to 9-13-5 on the season. Minnesota State outshot St. Cloud State 43-29 and was unable to kill the only penalty of the game.

Minnesota State (9-13-5, 3-12-3-2 WCHA) will travel to Madison, Wis., this weekend to take the #2 Wisconsin Badgers in a Saturday and Sunday series, with both games starting at 2:07 p.m.
