ST. PETER, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team picked up its second NSIC victory of the season Friday evening as it defeated St. Cloud State 4-3.
With the win, MSU improves to 4-5 on the season, including a 2-3 conference record. With the loss, SCSU drops to 1-5, including a 1-4 league record.
The Mavericks started the dual winning two of the three doubles matches to secure the first point. The duo of sophomore
Camila Ojeda and
Tyanna Washa bested Olivia Frederickson and Samantha Fitzpatrick 6-4 in the No. 2 doubles match, while senior
Valerie Bresnahan and sophomore
Abby Smithdefeated Sommer Kopff and Abby Scheck 7-5 in the No. 3 doubles match.
MSU and SCSU then went on to split the singles matches as MSU claimed the 4-3 dual victory. Senior
Erin Streeter earned a 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 1 singles match vs. Fernanda Morais Quintino Dossantos, while junior
Monika Ryan defeated Fitzpatrick 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles match. Washa locked down the win for the Mavericks as she defeated Melissa Nierenhausen 0-6, 7-5, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles match.
Minnesota State finishes its homestand this Sunday as it hosts Minnesota Duluth, at 8:30 a.m.
