MANKATO, Minn. ---   Minnesota State hosted the Minnesota Whitecaps in a women's hockey exhibition game played in Mankato, Saturday afternoon and the visiting Whitecaps came away with a 3-0 win.

Winger Allie Thunstrom got things rolling for the Whitecaps when she collected a shot from Emma Stauber that had bounced off a leg before sliding the puck with a shot from the high slot past senior netminder Katie Bidulka at 5:07 of the first period.

It became a 2-0 Whitecaps lead at 3:58 of the second when Jonna Curtis buried a shot from the top of the left circle. At 18:49, Lee Stecklein fired a wrister from 35 feet out that made its way to the back of the net and at the end of 40 minutes, the Whitecaps held a 3-0 advantage.

The two teams battled through a scoreless third period to close out the game.

Minnesota State netminders Katie Bidulka and Chloe Crosby combined to make 31 stops in the contest, while the Mavericks put 17 shots on the Whitecaps' two netminders Amanda Leveille and Julie Friend.

The Mavericks (9-12-5, 3-11-3-2 WCHA) resume action Tuesday with conference games at St. Cloud State (Tuesday) and Wisconsin (Saturday and Sunday).
