Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Minnesota State is Upended in Hall of Fame Classic by #2 Minnesota

Prior Lake, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's hockey team fell in the Hall of Fame Classic to #2 Minnesota on Saturday at the Dakotah! Ice Center.
 
The Mavericks found themselves trailing 1-0 after the first period of play with the Gophers scoring at the 14:19 mark. Sophomore forward Taylor Heise scored on a wrist shot from the right dot to the top left corner of the net. MSU collected more shots on net through the first period, leading UM 8-5.

The Gophers scored the final three goals of the game in the second period as the third period went scoreless, making the final score 4-0. At the 8:08 mark, freshman blueliner Madeline Wethington took a slap shot from the blue line and found its way through traffic for the goal. Sophomore winger Emily Oden found herself alone in front of the net and chipped a shot up over sophomore netminder Abigail Levy's shoulder at the 13:45 mark. Just over a minute later, sophomore forward Amy Potomak finished a two-on-one break with Heise and scored on the back side.
 
Sophomore Abigail Levy (3-7-1) made 22 saves after allowing four goals in the loss.

The Mavericks were outshot by the Gophers 26-18 in the game. Minnesota State did not have a power play opportunity and Minnesota was zero-for-two with the man advantage.
 
Now standing with a 7-10-2 (2-8-2-2 WCHA) record, Minnesota State will host Lindenwood in the final series of the 2019 part of the schedule on Dec. 14-15 at Mankato Civic Center.
