Duluth, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team (16-10, 9-9 NSIC) took to the road to face off with the #5 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs (23-3, 16-2 NSIC), and lost the match 3-0 (18-25, 23-25, 11-25).
The Bulldogs built an early lead in the first set, pulling ahead to an 18-12 lead, and despite a late push from the Mavericks, Duluth took the set 25-18.
Minnesota State kept the Bulldogs from pulling away in the second set, keeping the set close throughout, and tied at 22-22 late. Out of a timeout though, Duluth put together a 3-1 stretch to take the set and take a 2-0 lead for the match.
In the third set the Bulldogs built an early 10-5 lead. Duluth was able to take that early momentum and build on it, eventually taking the set 25-11 and the match 3-0.
Morgan Olson and
Jessica Nelson led the Mavericks in kills with 11 each while
Dana Schindler recorded 21 assists.
Next week the Mavericks will wrap up the regular season with a pair of home match against Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston. Friday, at 6:00 p.m., Minnesota State will host the Beavers and Saturday, at 2:00 p.m., the Mavericks and Golden Eagles will square off on senior day.
