Duluth, Minn.  ---   Junior center Jake Jaremko scored twice and sophomore Dryden McKay turned in a stellar goaltending performance as #1 Minnesota State skated to a 3-1 win at #8 Minnesota Duluth Saturday night.

Jaremko scored the game's first and last goal and McKay kicked out 37 of 38 shots as the visiting Mavericks won their seventh consecutive game.

With the Mavericks on a power play, freshman forward Lucas Sowder found Jaremko stationed at the left circle where the Elk River, Minn., native wired a shot past Hunter Shepard at the 11:30 mark of the opening period for the first goal of the game. The goal for Jaremko is his second of the season and his fourth point in the last four games.

Bolstered by a five-minute power play, UMD outshot the Mavericks by a 16-5 margin in the second period, but the Bulldogs were unable to get the puck past McKay as Minnesota State maintained its 1-0 edge through 40 minutes of action.

The Bulldogs evened the score with a power play marker from Justin Richards at 7:23 of the final period, but freshman forward Lucas Sowder connected on a power play at 9:04, enabling the Mavericks to regain the lead.  Jaremko then collected his second goal of the game with a power play goal of his own at 12:40 and the Mavericks held on the rest of the way to close out the weekend sweep.

McKay, who finished with a career-high 37 stops, upped his record for the season to 11-1-1 with the win.

Besides the two goals from Jaremko, other Mavericks with multiple-point performances were junior forward Reggie Lutz (three assists), Sowder (goal and assist) and sophomore center Nathan Smith (two assists).

The Mavericks, now 12-1-1 overall, outshot the Bulldogs by a 30-28 margin in the game and went three-for-four in power plays. UMD was one-for-five in man-advantage opportunities.

Minnesota State hosts a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series with Lake Superior State next Friday and Saturday in its next action.
