#19 Minnesota State Wins Ninth Straight in Shutout over Wayne State

Wayne, Neb. --- The No. 19 Minnesota State soccer team scores three first half goals on the way to a 4-0 shutout win over Wayne State on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Mavericks improved their record to 15-2-0 (12-2-0 NSIC) and recorded their ninth straight win on the tenth shutout of the season.
 
The Mavericks used the corner kicks to their advantage in the first half, scoring the first two goals off set pieces. Senior Bri Ciaccio was the beneficiary on both occasions, using her head on both goals in the 13th and 24th minute for her fourth and fifth goals of the season. Sophomore Brynn Desens served both corner kicks into the box, upping her team lead in assists to 11 on the season. Freshman Tia Martin scored the third goal in the first half after beating the goalkeeper to the high left corner for her second goal of the season in the 37th minute.

Minnesota State scored one more goal in the 89th minute to close out the scoring for the match. Freshman Shelby Lund received the ball deep in the box and chipped it past the goalkeeper for her first career goal at Minnesota State.

Senior Alexa Rabune (13-1-0) earned the win after playing 59 minutes but did not record a save. Freshman Mackenzie Rath finished the combined shutout and made two saves in her 31 minutes.
 
Minnesota State finished with a 29-5 shot advantage, including a 14-2 lead in shots on goal. The Mavericks also had 12 corner kicks to the Wildcats one in the match.
 
While playing against Wayne State, Augustana defeated Concordia-St. Paul 3-2 to give CSP its first conference loss of the season and propelled Minnesota State into the top spot in the NSIC with one match remaining.
 
The Mavericks will play Concordia-St. Paul in the final regular season match on Nov. 8 at 1:00 p.m. The match at The Pitch will determine who will win the regular season crown and earn the No. 1 seed in the NSIC Tournament. It will also be Senior Day for the Mavericks as 10 seniors will be recognized prior to the match for their careers at Minnesota State.
