Burlington, Vt. --- The Minnesota State women's hockey team was held scoreless in the first game of the Windjammer Classic after being defeated by #6/7 Clarkson 4-0 on Friday.
 
The Golden Knights held a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of action over the Mavericks. The first goal came at the 7:03 mark when junior forward Elizabeth Giguere was the beneficiary of a Maverick turnover deep in the defensive zone. The deficit grew to two goals at the 13:37 mark when sophomore forward Taylor Sawka put away a rebound off of sophomore netminder Abigail Levy's pads.

Clarkson was able to put two more goals in the net in the second period to have a 4-0 advantage after two periods of play. Giguere scored her second goal of the game at the 3:38 mark after she skated past two Maverick defenders and around Levy scoring in the low left corner. The fourth goal of the game for the Golden Knights came with a man advantage as freshman forward Brooke McQuigge put away a loose puck in front of the net at the 15:44 mark.
 
The third period went scoreless for both teams with the Mavericks holding an 8-7 advantage in shots on net. Sophomore Abigail Levy (3-6-1) made 30 saves in the loss with half of the saves coming in the second period.
 
The Mavericks were outshot by the Golden Knights 34-21 in the game. Minnesota State went zero-for-two on the power play and Clarkson converted on one of three opportunities.
 
Now standing with a 6-9-2 (2-8-2-2 WCHA) record, Minnesota State will face the loser of the Vermont and Penn State game in the consolation game tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. ET.
