Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's basketball team (2-1) won 100-63, against the Bethany Lutheran Vikings (4-1) Monday night in Mankato, Minn.
In the opening minutes of the game, the Mavericks attacked the paint, often finding wings cutting to the basket for layups, en-route to claiming a 25-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter saw the Vikings knock down several three-point attempts, but the Mavericks were able to extend their lead to 48-35 at the half.
In the first half, Minnesota State was led by
Tayla Stuttley and
Shea Fuller who each recorded eight points.
The Mavericks opened up the second half with a 6-0 run, forcing Bethany to use an early timeout. The Mavericks continued to roll, eventually growing their lead to 78-51 by the end of the third quarter.
Minnesota State never looked back in the fourth quarter, pulling away to earn the 100-63 win.
Fuller led the Mavericks in scoring with 13 points on the night while 14 members of the team scored at least one field goal. As a team, Minnesota State out-rebounded Bethany 56-44 while holding the Vikings to 31.6% shooting from the field.
The Maverick's next matchup is with UW-Parkside Saturday, at 1:00 p.m., in Parkside, Wis.
