Wayne, Neb. --- The Minnesota State volleyball (9-4, 2-3 NSIC) team traveled to Wayne, Neb., to face the Wayne State Wildcats (13-1, 4-1 NSIC), and lost the match 3-0 (13-25, 22-25, 18-25).
The first set started evenly, with both teams trading points before the Wildcats went on a 3-0 run to take a 10-7 lead over the Mavericks. Coming out of the timeout, Wayne State proceeded on a 15-6 run to close out the first set and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second set Minnesota State kept the game tight once more before Wayne State developed a narrow 14-12 lead to force a timeout. A late push from the Mavericks helped cut the Wildcat lead to 23-21, but the comeback fell short and Wayne State took the second set 25-22 for a 2-0 match lead.Â
The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead in the third set that they were able to push out to a 19-12 advantage, before holding on to take the set 25-18.
Morgan Olson and
Jessica Nelson led the attack for the Mavericks, finishing with 13 and 12 kills respectively.Â
Dana Schindler led the team with 32 assists while adding nine digs.Â
Tomorrow the Mavericks will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D., to face off with Augustana with first serve scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
